Question 1

When is the best time to visit Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Fuerteventura enjoys a warm climate year-round, making it one of Europe's top winter sun destinations. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer comfortable temperatures of 22–26°C without summer crowds. Summer (June–August) is hot and can be windy — perfect for kitesurfers. Winter (December–February) is mild at 18–21°C and far quieter, making it ideal for a peaceful retreat. The island averages over 300 sunny days per year.

Question 2

How do I get to Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Fuerteventura International Airport (FUE) is served by direct flights from most major European cities, including London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Warsaw. The flight takes approximately 4 hours from the UK and 3–4 hours from central Europe. Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, Condor, and Vueling are among the carriers with regular routes.

Question 3

How do I get around Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Hiring a car is by far the best way to explore the island. The roads are good and driving between resorts takes 30–90 minutes depending on your destination. Car hire at the airport is affordable. Public buses (tiadhe.com) connect the major resorts but services are infrequent. Taxis are available in all towns. Many guests find a car essential for visiting remote beaches like Cofete.

Question 4

What is the weather like in Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Fuerteventura has a semi-arid climate and is the windiest of the Canary Islands — a fact that makes it a world-class destination for wind sports. Temperatures rarely drop below 16°C in winter or exceed 32°C in summer. The east coast is more sheltered; the north and west coasts face stronger Atlantic winds. Rain is rare, with fewer than 50mm falling annually in most areas.

Question 5

Is Fuerteventura a good destination for families?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Fuerteventura is an excellent family destination. The south and east coasts (Costa Calma, Caleta de Fuste, Morro Jable) offer calm, shallow waters safe for children. The island is compact enough that family attractions are easily accessible. Self-catering holiday rentals are popular with families as they provide kitchen facilities, more space than hotel rooms, and the flexibility to eat on your own schedule.

Question 6

Is Fuerteventura safe to visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Fuerteventura has one of the lowest crime rates of any major Canary Islands destination, and violent crime against tourists is rare. The realistic risks are the ordinary ones of any tourist destination — petty theft from parked rental cars, keeping an eye on bags in busy resort areas — plus natural ones: strong Atlantic currents on open, unsheltered beaches, and intense midday sun for most of the year. There's no dangerous wildlife to worry about either: no snakes, and nothing venomous that's a real threat to visitors. The only creatures worth knowing about are weever fish and sea urchins, which can sting or prick if you step on one in shallow water — shuffle your feet through the sand rather than walking normally, and it's a non-issue. Stick to lifeguarded or clearly sheltered beaches for swimming, use sun protection, and you're unlikely to run into any real trouble.

Question 7

What currency is used in Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

As part of Spain, Fuerteventura uses the Euro (€). Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere. ATMs are available in all major resorts and at the airport. It is worth informing your bank before travelling to avoid your card being blocked.

Question 8

Do I need a visa to visit Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Fuerteventura is part of Spain and therefore part of the European Union. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens can enter with a national ID card. UK citizens (post-Brexit) need a valid passport. US, Canadian, and Australian citizens can visit for up to 90 days without a visa under the Schengen Agreement. Always check the latest entry requirements before travelling.

Question 9

What language is spoken in Fuerteventura?

Accepted Answer

Spanish is the official language. In tourist areas, English and German are widely spoken. The local dialect is Canarian Spanish, which differs slightly from mainland Spanish. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases is always appreciated by locals.
